Founded: Originally a weekly club in 7ts, in its present guise 7 years

Time : 8pm- 3am £ 4.00 (inc buffet)

Day of month: Always the 3rd saturday

Capacity; 140

Layout: a cellar club housed in a private hotel, the owner is a soul fan too?. and we are full nearly every month. Great atmosphere, large open fire in the winter, 3 inter-connecting rooms full of bric-a-brac and interesting furniture, very friendly knowledgable crowd from all over the country. Small busy dance floor.

Getting there;
The Greatstone is on the main route in/out of Manchester City centre, two minutes from Manchester Uniteds ground. About an hour away from Liverpool port, about 2 hours from Hollyhead.
Reasonable rooms available in the hotel, but if you want to spend a little more there are loads of hotels near by. The cheapest being Steve Catos 5 mins away and free

Music policy, got to be 100% original vinyl, no boots, Rare 6ts Soul, Northern, Crossover & Rythm & Soul.The records are judged on how good they are , and not on price, that means that £10 records can sit nicely next to £1000 plus rarities.All the regular Dj's try and bring new stuff to play every month to keep things fresh.

Regular Djs are all local collectors Tony Jackson , Mark Baildon, Paul havakin, Budgie, and Resident Stevie Z.

Regular guests every month, which have included....Keith Money, Soul sam, Arthur Fenn, Ginger, Pat Brady, Kenny Burrell, Tim Brown, Mick H etc etc....we also encourage collectors who attend to do guest spots.

Layout

The Main Room, with a 400 capacity, is wall-to-wall polished wooden floor, 40' high ceilings and exposed brick walls. These provide all the ingredients for amazing acoustics. A 60k in-house, professionally installed sound rig gives those old 45's a new dimension!

The 2nd Room, opened in March, gives us the opportunity to increase the capacity to over 500 and keep the 'Soulsville' ethos going and play something a little bit different while the Main Room will keep the floor busy.

Getting there: Leeds/Bradford Airport

Brief History:
Nov 2003 at the Baby Jupiter cellar bar in Leeds city centre. Pat Brady & John Parker joined the team in Jan 2005. The musical direction gradually changed from Northern standards to the more underplayed over a period of time.

Original home of the 'Soul Source' darts team all-dayers, towards the end of our time there we had some fantastic guests from all ends of the Soul spectrum: John & Ali Nightingale, James Trouble, Eddy Engel, Tony Jackson & Paul Havakin, Ged Parker, John May, Dave Abbott, Neil Brown, Andy Faulkner, Dan Collins, Brett Franklin and the double-deck debut of Janine Snow & Karen Crane plus many more.
The remit was to play something different, with not having to play to a floor all the guests dug deep and gave those rarely heard tunes a spin, sort of 'Northern Soul Unplugged' to loosely describe it.

New Chapter:
We moved to our new home in Feb 2006. The Northern Light is located on the opposite side of Leeds city centre from the Baby Jupiter, and a 10 min walk from the train station. Sat across the road from Leeds central bus station and several cheapish hotels within 5 mins walk.

We keep to 100% original vinyl where possible, NO BOOTS!!!
